I am delighted to welcome you to our school website.
Entrusting the care of your child to others is one of the most important decision you can make. Thank you for considering our school in this time of change. Students attending Vale of York Academy are proud of the school are pleased by the choice they have made. They find their lessons fulfilling and engaging and understand the worth of being known by all the staff, challenged and supported. We pride ourselves on the strong collaboration between parents and the school and will not rest until we are certain every child is able to achieve and flourish to their very best.
In 1941, the former Canon Lee School opened on the “periphery” of York as a flagship community school; one of the first in the area to have specifically pre-designed Science labs and Technology labs. The design was such that it was at the forefront of innovation, challenge and aspiration. Many changes have taken place since then. In January 2017, we entered an exciting new era as Vale of York Academy, a sponsored academy under the Hope Learning Trust: with a change in leadership, a change of uniform, and a new school ethos. “Always giving the best”
The partnership with Hope Learning Trust and importantly with Manor Church of England Academy is significant as it is unique to the schools in York. No other Multi Academy Trust exists as yet in York that gives scope for two secondary schools to work in collaboration. By joining our school, your child gets the best of both worlds. Vale of York is a small school with less than 150 pupils in each year. This means your child can truly be known as a unique individual by each and every one of our dedicated and committed staff, many of whom have been recently appointed from Outstanding schools; but at the same time they will reap the benefits of being a sister school to Manor – one of the most successful schools in the City of York.
Although I am new to the school this academic year, I have over a decade of experience on Senior Leadership Teams in Outstanding schools and know what it takes to ensure each child flourishes and achieves their very best. I consider it a true privilege to lead this school in the time ahead and ensure it returns to its former status of leading in innovation and success within the City of York.
“Your destination is only determined by the limit of your dreams”
