Vale of York Academy celebrated this week, as some of last year’s outgoing Year 11 students joined current students at a very special Awards Evening.
Staff, students and the school community came together, to celebrate the achievements of its young people. Some students received subject prizes, whilst others received progress leader awards which celebrated high standards, excellent learning conduct and motivation to do their very best.
Principal, Helen Dowds, says “Vale of York Academy is on an incredible journey and it is hugely important that we recognise those students who have been instrumental in leading and shaping the academy this far. They are justifiably proud of their school and their successes and we are immensely proud of them too. The journey we are on is epitomised by the spirit and dedication of the award winners and their drive to be the best they can be.”
Last year’s Head Boy and Girl of the Academy, Joseph Stancliffe and Holly Cairns, both received subject awards and a special award for services to the school. Guests enjoyed performances from Vale of York musicians and singers Mina Rodgers, Kiera Lewis and Danny Western.
The Academy would also like to thank Brian Crosby, CEO of the Hope Learning Trust, York who was the guest speaker on the evening.
Thank you so much to @marcrowland73 for such an engaging and thought provoking CPD session on supporting students during lockdown and their eventual return to the classroom. Much appreciated by all colleagues @ValeYorkAcademy.
It is really good to see that some students manage to keep up with the cooking skills. Please send pictures in of your delicious food. House points will be awarded for every entry! pic.twitter.com/1pzm…
